Notification Date - December 22, 2025:
Crews continue locating, surveying, and documenting utilities and obstructions on Lake Street and State Street, as well as performing advanced work on the elevated structure in preparation for the January 5th State/Lake Loop Elevated station closure. Read more and view the traffic impact maps.
Notification Date - December 8, 2025:
Starting Monday, December 8, Lake Street from State Street to Wabash Avenue will close during weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of the year (excluding holidays) so crews can remove old lead-based paint and old rivets and install temporary bolting as advanced work prior to repairing the track structure. Notification Date - December 4, 2025:
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), in coordination with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), announced the upcoming start of construction on the new State/Lake Loop Elevated station in downtown Chicago. The existing 120-year-old State/Lake Loop Elevated station will close beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, to allow for demolition and the start of major construction activities for the new, fully accessible rail hub.
