Getting Around
During Construction

During construction of this project, you’ll be able to find CTA, traffic and pedestrian impacts updated here. All businesses are open during construction.

CTA Impacts

  • State/Lake Loop Elevated Station:

    • As of Monday, January 5, 2026, the existing State/Lake Loop elevated station closed for demolition and reconstruction. The station will remain closed throughout construction.

Working to Reduce Construction Headaches

Noise

  • Set up temporary enclosures around excavation areas to limit the sound disruption.

  • Monitors will be used to track the level of vibrations during excavation.

Night Work

  • When needed, crews will work overnight to replace the structural support beams of the State/Lake station to minimize impacts to businesses in the area and the traveling public.

  • During overnight work crews will monitor decibel levels of all equipment being used.

  • All lighting will be contained to the work zone so as not to disturb nearby businesses, hotels and residences.

Construction is loud, messy and impactful to your daily routine. Aside from sharing updates in the Construction Update newsletters and keeping the construction website up to date, there are a few more ways the project team is working to keep construction impacts to a minimum.

Dust Control

  • Spray the area with water before excavation starts.

  • Set up temporary enclosure around excavation areas to limit the spread of dust.

Bird & Rodent Control

  • To protect birds from nesting or roosting in construction areas, work zones will avoid using flat or low sloped surfaces on temporary enclosures, such as roofs and ledges.

  • All rodent control operations will use environmentally safe materials.
