Notification Date - April 13, 2026:

Starting Monday, April 13, 2026, southbound State Street will be closed between Wacker Drive and Randolph Street for approximately six weeks for emergency sewer repairs. All businesses will remain open during construction. Read more and view the traffic impact map.

Notification Date - March 30, 2026:

Crews continue making progress by removing rivets, repairing the track structure, and repainting the existing steel. A portion of Lake Street between Dearborn Street and Wabash Avenue is anticipated to close the week of March 30 for sewer repairs and new utility installations. Notification Date - March 16, 2026:

Notification Date - March 2, 2026:

Crews continue demolition and structural preparations at the State/Lake Loop Elevated station, including replacing rivets with temporary bolts, removing exterior walls and columns, and advancing platform demolition. Crews also surveyed existing structural conditions and marked select station elements to be preserved for the Illinois Railway Museum. All businesses remain open during construction. Notification Date - February 16, 2026:

Crews are advancing demolition and reconstruction at the State/Lake Loop Elevated station, including paint and rivet removal, platform dismantling, and removal of signal equipment. Work also includes installing temporary subway lighting and preparing for upcoming water main improvements. All businesses will remain open during construction. Notification Date - February 2, 2026:

Crews continue locating, surveying, and documenting utilities on Lake Street and State Street, as well as performing site maintenance and snow cleanup. Please note, work is weather dependent. Notification Date - January 19, 2026:

Crews continue paint and rivet removal from the closed State/Lake Loop Elevated station along with selective demolition of the old platform. Notification Date - January 5, 2026:

Starting Monday, January 5, 2026, the State/Lake Loop Elevated station will close for demolition and full reconstruction for the duration of the project. All businesses will remain open during construction. Read more and view the traffic impact maps.

Notification Date - December 22, 2025:

Crews continue locating, surveying, and documenting utilities and obstructions on Lake Street and State Street, as well as performing advanced work on the elevated structure in preparation for the January 5th State/Lake Loop Elevated station closure. Read more and view the traffic impact maps.

Notification Date - December 8, 2025:

Starting Monday, December 8, Lake Street from State Street to Wabash Avenue will close during weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of the year (excluding holidays) so crews can remove old lead-based paint and old rivets and install temporary bolting as advanced work prior to repairing the track structure. Notification Date - December 4, 2025:

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), in coordination with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), announced the upcoming start of construction on the new State/Lake Loop Elevated station in downtown Chicago. The existing 120-year-old State/Lake Loop Elevated station will close beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, to allow for demolition and the start of major construction activities for the new, fully accessible rail hub. The project team continues underground utility relocation, pavement removals, and installation of monitoring equipment.

The project team is continuing with underground utility relocation and installation of temporary pedestrian lighting.

Notification Date - October 10, 2025:
Ahead of the Chicago Marathon, State Street and Lake Street will be clear of all construction activities to allow for complete event access.

Notification Date - September 19, 2025:
Advanced utility work is progressing on State and Lake Street. The project team is coordinating work activities to allow complete event access for the Chicago Marathon and Columbus Day Parade.

Notification Date - September 5, 2025:
The project team implemented full project lane closures on State Street and Lake Street. Work activities to follow include civil street surveying and marking, saw cutting, temporary light pole installations and utility coordination.

Notification Date - August 22, 2025:
Advanced utility work for the State and Lake station reconstruction project is underway! Lake Street is reduced to one lane eastbound. State Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting Monday night, August 25th.

Notification Date -August 8, 2025:
Advance utility and structural locate work for the new State/Lake CTA Station will begin this month, with lane closures scheduled to start on Lake Street on August 18 and on State Street on August 25. This early phase of construction will not include demolition work and will not affect CTA service at the existing State/Lake elevated station.
